Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU), part of the Banaras Hindu University, is one of India’s most prestigious and oldest centers for medical education, research, and healthcare. It was established in 1960 as the Faculty of Medicine, and later evolved into a full-fledged Institute of Medical Sciences under BHU. The institute is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and consistently ranks among India’s top medical colleges. IMS-BHU offers Undergraduate (MBBS), Postgraduate (MD/MS), Super-Specialty (DM/MCh), and Ph.D. programs in a wide range of medical and allied health disciplines. The institute is affiliated with Sir Sunderlal Hospital, a large tertiary care hospital and teaching facility with over 1,000 beds, providing extensive clinical exposure to students. The hospital also houses modern super-specialty centers for cardiology, oncology, neurology, nephrology, and more, serving patients from across India. The institute follows an integrated approach that blends traditional medical knowledge with modern innovations.
